GovAssist Black Voices: Our Part in Diversity

At GovAssist, the topic of diversity has never been taken lightly. Since our establishment as a company, it's been the cornerstone of our ethos. The path to true equity is a long one, but as a company, we’re devoted to bridging that gap not only with words, but in our daily interactions, hiring practices, and ensuring that we give our black voices a stage.

In closing out Black History Month 2024, we took a moment to chat with Sadiya Idris, a valued member of our Quality Assurance team, about her insights on measuring progress in #BlackExcellence, ensuring #Inclusivity, #Equity and what she enjoys most about her role at GovAssist.

Measuring Progress Towards Racial Equity

Sadiya kicks off our conversation by highlighting the diversity within our organization (her team alone spanning 7 unique nationalities). From entry-level positions to leadership roles, GovAssist is a melting pot of talent from various racial backgrounds, cultures, and countries. It's this inclusive environment that attempts to foster an equitable workplace culture where everyone has a seat at the table, and where everyone’s voices are heard.

How do we measure progress toward racial equity? Sadiya emphasizes the importance of representation across all levels (not just on TV). It's not just about hiring a diverse workforce; it's about creating pathways for advancement and facilitating the road to success so that everyone has an equal shot at it. While no company is perfect, and there is still much to be done, focusing on diversity in leadership and decision-making roles at GovAssist helps us continue to push the needle forward toward racial equity.

Inclusivity in Hiring Practices

Building a strong, empathetic, and cohesive team means considering not only diversity of culture but also of mind. Inclusivity starts from the very beginning of the hiring process, and Sadiya drops some valuable points on how to keep things fair and square. She's a big fan of blind resume reviews, where applicants are evaluated solely on their skills and experiences, obscuring any personally identifiable information. This approach helps keep unconscious biases in check and presents candidates to be judged solely on their merit, further leveling the playing field.

At GovAssist, inclusivity isn't just a buzzword we throw around haphazardly; it's deeply ingrained into our hiring practices and daily employee interactions. By embracing innovative strategies like blind resume reviews, we're doubling down on our commitment to building a diverse workforce that mirrors the increasingly globalized and integrated world that is our society.

Making a Difference

Now, let's talk about Sadiya's role at GovAssist. You can practically hear the smile in her voice as she talks about helping the Customer Service team provide top-notch communication with our clients. And she’s not mistaken. We take immense pride in delivering stellar service to our clients, and Sadiya is right there on the front lines, making sure every interaction is marked by professionalism and excellence, informed by measurable data and metrics.

For Sadiya, the joy of her role lies in making a tangible impact in the lives of our clients and colleagues, helping in the GovAssist mission of making dreams come true. Whether she's tackling a customer’s question or lending a hand to her team members, she's all about making the GovAssist experience the red-carpet, white-glove journey it’s designed to be.

In Conclusion

As we wrap up our chat with Sadiya (click here for the video version on Instagram), we can humbly see that black voices like hers are the pulse of our commitment to diversity,  inclusion, and equity. Sadiya's perspective offers invaluable guidance not just to us, but to everyone in the corporate world wondering how to move forward equitably. Let’s go beyond just celebrating Black History Month. It’s a daily undertaking that must be made intentionally and with empathy, so let's raise a toast to the contributions of black voices in shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for us all. Cheers to that! 🥂
